HARDRAADE
Discover the fascinating story behind the construction of the Viking ship at Sundvollen in Hole municipality in Norway.
While exploring our shipyard, you will also get to know legendary figures such as Harald Hardråde and Odin, as well as the mystical ravens, Hugin and Munin.
See craftsmen forge, carve runes, sew, woodwork, and build - all while you wander through Norwegian Viking history.
Our experienced guides will take you on an unforgettable journey through time! We welcome both groups and drop-in visits.
THE YARD
Hardraade is currently building a full-scale Viking ship that is set to sail on Tyrifjorden in 2025.
If you're interested in the Viking Age, boat building, blacksmithing, wood carving, runes, or textiles from this era, feel free to visit us. It's only a 1-hour drive from Oslo!
We also have ample and free parking available.
Volunteering
A Saturday at Sundvollen with Hardraade is a day filled with exciting activities and social interaction. Here you can participate in building a full-scale Viking ship, learn about blacksmithing and sewing, and share knowledge with like-minded people.
We also enjoy ourselves around the campfire, eat good food, drink strong coffee, laugh, and share stories.
It's an experience that will give you memories for a lifetime!
Community
Do you want to experience true Viking joy? Then we recommend you show up for a Saturday workday or participate in one of our events.

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Since you are in the area anyway, we recommend that you also take a trip to Veien Cultural Heritage Park which is located in Hønefoss. This is an exciting archaeological museum with longhouses, exhibitions, burial mounds and nice café with an amazing view!
Sundvolden Hotel, one of our dearest partners and sponsors, delivers generous weekly food donations to our volunteers. We greatly appreciate their contribution, especially considering their acclaimed cuisine. If you're visiting Hardraade, you should definitely stop by the hotel for a tasty bite to eat – you won't regret it! In addition, we can recommend an overnight stay in their historic rooms. They also have a super nice spa :)

VEIEN CULTURAL
HERITAGE PARK
Here you will find one of Eastern Norway's largest burial grounds from the Early Iron Age.
With over 100 burial mounds, and a rebuilt longhouse from Roman times, you can learn a lot about how the Vikings' ancestors lived.
If you have the opportunity, we recommend a trip to Veien before visiting Hardraade. Then you get to experience a real time travel!
