A wonderful project that I will be very happy to follow its progress. A beautiful Viking ship is being built here using time-appropriate tools. It's great to see the resources being used here.
Definitely worth a visit.

FROM VISION TO VOYAGE

The story behind the Hardraade Viking Ship Associatin

The idea to build a Viking ship sprouted from a similar project in Tønsberg, where the Oseberg ship was reconstructed in 2012. Hardraade’s vision is to create a vibrant platform that celebrates Norwegian Viking history, craftsmanship, and culture.

This incredible historical project is the result of countless hours of volunteer work and a passionate dedication to our history. The launch marks a major milestone in the project and offers us a unique opportunity to experience how Vikings sailed thousands of years ago.

The Hardraade Viking Ship Association was officially founded on October 17, 2016, with the vision of keeping Viking history alive by building a full-scale Viking ship.

The association is involved in a variety of traditional crafts, including boatbuilding, wood carving, forging, and sewing. Now that the Dronning Åsta has been launched, work continues on completing the mast and square sail. This will allow the ship to embark on new adventures and share an important part of Norway's cultural heritage.

Don't miss out on the action

Even though Queen Asta is now resting safely in Steinsfjorden, the work is far from over.

Soon, we'll begin one of the most crucial tasks: building the mast and yard.

Our goal is to hoist the sails next summer!
