DRONNING ASTA'S BOAT CREW!
With Queen Åsta finally on the water, the time has come to establish a dedicated boat crew. This is something we've been dreaming of for a long time!
Our main goal is to build both practical and theoretical expertise in maneuvering Viking ships. This offer is open to all members of the Hardraade Viking Ship Association.
We are starting this autumn with theoretical and practical rowing training on Steinsfjorden. We also aim to get a head start on sail training so that we have a well-trained crew ready when we raise the square sail in the summer of 2026. You can find all the details in the latest info letter.
The boat crew is led by five captains, all experienced recreational skippers with the necessary D5L certificates. Several of us have also sailed on the Saga Farmann and Saga Oseberg on longer Viking expeditions in Europe.
We are collaborating with Oseberg Viking Heritage, a partner with extensive experience in boat crew work. Thanks to them, we are ensuring that Hardraade's own boat crew will be well-functioning. However, we ask for your patience during this start-up phase as we work together to find the best way to organize ourselves for the future.

MEET OUR CAPTAINS!
We're incredibly proud to introduce Hardraade’s new Viking ship Captains!
Their role is vital to the success of our boat crew, and they will from now on be the driving force behind everything we do - whether on land or on the fjords.
With their Recreational Skipper Certificate (D5L) and valuable sailing experience from notable Viking ships like Saga Farmann and Saga Oseberg, our Captains have the competence needed to lead. Rest assured, you're in safe hands!
They hold a key leadership role, responsible for guiding the crew and ensuring everything is in order, from daily operations to planning training sessions.
And of course, they are also passionately committed to making sure everyone feels welcome and has a great time!
